Mayday Domestic Violence Services offers training in the following:

We know from experience it is not easy for professionals to convince parents that their behaviour can cause emotional harm to the children when they expose them to parental conflict. We can help with this common problem by sharing with you our techniques and skills that have been successfully tested in our group work with both mothers and fathers.

This workshop will provide you with alternative methods of engaging those parents often described by others as “hard to reach “and empower them to achieve positive outcomes.

Are you working with a parent where domestic violence and mental health are presenting factors? If you often wonder why the parents fail to engage with specific interventions on their Child Protection (CP) plan or why they disengage from a process designed to support them, this training is for you. It will help you to re-engage parents who have disengaged.

Professionals supporting parents often work at surface level by focussing on the presenting factors and wonder why there is little progress or sustainable change. To effectively support families experiencing Parental Conflict professionals need to explore and understand how the ACE’s are preventing families from making the appropriate changes to safeguard their children. At the end of this training you will have learnt new strategies to safely explore the underlying reasons why parents are struggling to make the changes.

Unlike other Motivational Interviewing (MI) training, we bring you a programme that actually focuses on the presenting factor of changing parents’ behaviour and engagement in domestic violence ( including coercive control ) We want you to be able to work with parents to resolve ambivalence and move them towards motivation to change their behaviour.

The training will provide you with knowledge and skills to achieve meaningful outcomes because the parents will be motivated to change rather than engaging in disguised compliance behaviours.
